As a result of a hard year’s work, SAFUGE has opened a third project. Members were asked to present what they wanted to do to help their communities back home and three students volunteered to use some of their summer time to make the quality of life a bit better for many. Diego presented a school in his neighborhood in Guatemala where he proposed refurbishing two classrooms. Kwando did the same for a school in her town in Zimbabwe where she proposed creating a food bank through an NGO that helps schools.
The third project by Maria Luisa was the one voted and it involves starting a library in her hometown school, plus the reconstruction of the wall around it and the covering of a back dirt patch so students can play football. This project will last two years and it can be continued by the new student from Peru.
This is on top of the two other projects we currently have. Our beloved mother school in Sierra Leone will have Alim, Prince and Ishaka (3rd year) refurbishing the kitchen. Danamona will finish off her school project in Madagascar.
SAFUGE wishes to thank Red Cross Nordic for their unfailing support as well as the Dale commune who has offered their contributions through both private individuals and institutions.
