The recent fund raising effort to enable Raselas Diversity School to purchase a new site had a target of 100,000 kroner by July 1st. On June 13, DROP was able to send 61,000 kroner to Mekdes and Tsegaye, the school licensees, to help them in their purchase.

Every kroner donated goes directly to the purchase of the land, in the suburb of Addis Ababa called Ormiria. We are 61% of our way to the target, but time is now very short.

Wherever you are in the world currently, please don’t forget DROP or the kids at Raselas. Please tell your family and friends!!

The College was invited to co-host a panel discussion on Global Security Analysis during the Board meeting of the EastWest Institute (EWI) in the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo, June 2008.

Founded in 1980, EWI is an international, non-partisan, entrepreneurial organization that has become an institution of choice for state and non-state actors seeking to cooperate, prevent conflict, and manage regional and global challenges. Their major areas of work are conflict prevention, global security, leadership and learning, and EWI in Asia. See http://www.iews.org/ for more info.

EWI has long enjoyed solid support from government and business leaders in Norway, a tradition strengthened during the course of the most recent EWI Board of Directors meeting, which was held in Oslo June 4th and 5th, 2008. In addition to the presentation by Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre, board members were hosted for discussions by Tschudi Shipping Co. AS and Telenor, the country’s leading telecommunications company.

During the panel session the College co-hosted, our group of students asked well-prepared, relevant and challenging questions to the panel of experts on the research they had done on global security. Their questions were well received, generated immediate comments, and provided valuable feedback from representatives of the younger generation for the expert professionals.

After the panel discussion session, our group of students and staff were invited to take part in a lovely cruise trip on the beautiful Oslo Fjord on a most pleasant June evening. We mingled with many prominent political and business leaders, learned from them, and also increased awareness of our College.
